The Green Party passes motion to end advertising directed at young children

14 September 2013

A motion calling for all advertising targeted at children of primary school age or under to be banned has been passed at the Green Party at the Green Party’s Conference.

Under the Green Party’s unique democratic structure, which allows members rather than the leadership alone to decide on official policy, the ban immediately becomes party policy.

“This is an issue on which anyone and everyone who cares about kids can unite. I hope earnestly that the next Parliament will bring in this law, so that Britain, like Sweden, Norway and Quebec, can stop our kids’ minds being flooded with toxic waste”, commented Rupert Read, MEP candidate for Eastern Region, who proposed the motion alongside Jonathan Kent, Caroline Lucas MP, Keith Taylor MEP, Caroline Allen, Leader Natalie Bennett and Peter Cranie.
