Chris Williams

Chris WilliamsChris, aged 25, is one of the youngest candidates at the European elections. He graduated in Biochemistry at Oxford University three years ago. Chris has since spent a year travelling from Morocco to Cape Town. In the past two years he worked for an environmental campaigns charity. Passionate about justice, he now works full time promoting Green politics.

Chris recently managed the campaign to elect Solihull's first Green Party Councillor. The difference this makes is already being felt.

Green Jobs Pledged

Chris joined the Green Party aged 20. Before that, he was President of Oxford University Liberal Democrats. However, he learned that the Lib Dem policies are different from one town to the next.

Born and raised in Solihull, Chris returned to the area after University. Chris feels the Green Party in the West Midlands offers a real chance to promote green jobs. He feels Government should be:

  • promoting the green manufacturing industry in the West Midlands
  • changing purchasing laws so local Councils can buy from local producers.

Campaigning For Change

Chris has long campaigned on a range of issues for people in the West Midlands. He believes the current Government leaves people with less power. Giving back a voice to local people is a key priority.

He has also campaigned on climate change, the economy and local shops. He has also been the press officer for a fair trade group.

Chris ran a campaign to elect a Green Party Councillor on to Solihull Council.

  • The Greens won with 45% of the vote.
  • The Labour Party Leader on the Council lost his seat as a result.
  • The Greens' campaign focussed on local issues important to local people.
