Jason Kitcat is the Leader of Brighton & Hove City Council and an elected member of the UK's first Green-led council administration.![]()
He represents Regency Ward in central Brighton.
Before his election as council leader in May 2012, Jason was Cabinet Member for Finance & Central Services.
He was elected to the council in a December 2007 by-election.
Jason is a former Chair of Brighton & Hove Green Party and has a track record as a successful campaign manager.
He was one of the leading party figures who led the local party to success in the Regency Ward by-election, the 2009 European Elections (with Greens topping the city-wide poll), as well as two other council by-elections
He was on the management team for the 2011 city council election campaign.
Jason was a Green candidate for European Parliament in 2009 and was a member of the campaign management team for Caroline Lucas' successful campaign to become the UK's first Green MP.
In his professional work Jason was a Foundation Coordinator at the Open Knowledge Foundation to 2012.
He also served as Head of Technology at Netmums, a leading grassroots parenting site as well as working with online communities since the early 1990s and has founded or co-founded a number of technology related companies.
Jason's pastimes include cycling and Japanese cooking.
He is married to Ania Kitcat who was elected to serve with him in Regency Ward in the May 2011 local elections for four years. They have two children.
