Welcome to Manchester

What a wild ride we’ve all been on this year. We have so much to celebrate, not only our phenomenal hard work but also so many incredible results. Every door knocked, every bit of literature posted, every conversation we’ve had with anyone and everyone who went on to vote Green. It all added up to something phenomenal.

Here in Greater Manchester we had some huge achievements, we celebrated strong results in the mayoral campaign up against Andy Burnham (we won our deposit back for the first time ever!) and we also welcomed Hanif Ali to our group of councillors in GM. Hanif is our first councillor in Bolton!

We had strong results in the general election and lots of deposits made their way back to us, but crucially so many people decided to vote for us for the first time. We certainly made waves in Manchester Rusholme, our brilliant Thirza Asanga-Rae achieved one of the strongest results overall, anywhere. Our GE success was replicated across England and Wales, and all of us worked incredibly hard building a national picture that encouraged so many to vote Green. We all played a part in that, and we should be so proud.

Conference this year will be so memorable. And we are delighted to be welcoming you all to come and celebrate with us here in Manchester. We have loads of fun stuff planned (read more here), and we’re looking forward to all the interesting workshops and fringe events that the conference team have put together.

As the famous phrase goes – ‘This is Manchester, we do things differently here’. And I think that chimes pretty well with our party, we aren’t like the other same old political parties. We are different, and we are winning.

Here’s to a brilliant conference, and a well earned celebration. Looking forward to seeing you all here in September!

PS – if you are arriving in Manchester ahead of conference, we’d love for you to join us in Baguley as we’re fighting a by-election and our candidate Thirza has a really good chance of winning! Contact Membership@manchester.greenparty.org.uk
