Internal Communications Co-ordinator

The Internal Communications Co-ordinator aims to enhance and maintain effective communication channels within the Green Party. This includes overseeing internal publications, improving member engagement, and ensuring the members’ website is a useful resource for all party activities.

The Candidate

Vix Lowthion

As our party grows – in terms of membership numbers, councillors, MPs, Members of the Senedd and much more – it is vital that our internal structures keep up with the pace of change. Effective internal communications for the Green Party are central to our future success at the ballot box, but also for the holistic health and wellbeing of our party.

Since I joined the Green party in 2014 I have been actively involved in my local party (Isle of Wight) and at national level as the Policy Development Co-ordinator (2020-23) and on the Policy Development Committee (2020-25). I have been frustrated with some of the systems available for internal communications, but also full of praise when we get it right.  I helped to organise the online Policy Fest (2021-25) which required information sharing via our website, document sharing, emails between groups and bringing people together from across the country. I know I can use my experience from the last few years, plus support from our excellent staff, to move our communications to an even stronger position.

I have a track record of involving members and getting things done.

As the new Internal Communications Co-ordinator my priorities would be:

  • Engaging more members – they are our biggest resource & we must do all we can to harness that power
  • Embracing new initiatives – we cannot be afraid to try new methods & I would like to see more innovation in our communications
  • Developing our members’ website – it is central to how we operate as a party & supports so much of the work we do.
  • Keeping everyone updated – whether that’s through emails, meetings, document sharing and other methods.

In addition, as a member of the Executive (GPEX) I would support the other co-ordinators by increasing the wider membership’s awareness of their plans and achievements. For too long our GPEX has seemed detached from the rest of the party: in the last 2 years I have not been a member of GPEX and I’ve found it difficult to know what’s going on! I hope that I can improve this situation through improvements in communication, such as a quarterly newsletter, podcast or other such promotional tool.

I am looking forward to getting more involved with the party at a national level, and this Internal Communications Co-ordinator role seems like a good fit for my experience and skills. By day I am a Sixth Form teacher (History, Classics and Geology), chairman of the Community Council for the county town of Newport, Isle of Wight and a parent of 3 teenage boys. Communication is what I spend my days doing, and I would really like to help the Green Party in this critical area.
