The role exists to represent and to further the achievement of the Green Party’s objectives generally and specifically through providing leadership to and creating a dialogue between the Executive, local party Trade Union Liaison Officers and the Green Party Trade Union Group in order to inform strategy development and decision-making.
There are two key dimensions: external focus across the Union movement and internal focus within the party.
The Candidates
Kate Jones & Paul Valentine
Vote Paul & Kate for Trade Union Liaison Officer
Paul and Kate combine years of trade union experience – frontline activism meeting policy expertise – to deliver effective representation as your Trade Union Liaison Officers.
Paul: Frontline Union Activist
Paul has championed workers’ rights for over 10 years, first at Equity, where he has risen through every level of activism.
He has:
- Served on the Young Members Committee, as London South Branch Chair and Secretary
- Sat on Equity’s executive Council
- Founded Equity for a Green New Deal, creating a national network of creative industry activists pushing for environmental reform
Paul is also a member and activist at PCS where, during COVID, he chaired the Southbank Centre PCS Branch, where he saved jobs, boosted redundancy pay, and led joint campaigns across arts institutions to protect the sector’s most vulnerable workers.
Kate: Professional Trade Union Officer
Kate brings five years of professional trade union experience across policy, employment rights, and campaign departments.
- Currently leads AI policy development at UNISON
- Worked as equalities officer at the Royal College of Midwives
- Managed campaign and activism development at Equity
- Coordinated the Trade Union Working Group at London Renters Union
- Currently holds the role of Young Members Officer at her Unite branch

Paul has previously been on GPEx and with both Paul and Kate’s combined expertise in union activism and internal organisation make them the ideal job-share team. Their complementary skills – Paul’s institutional knowledge and grassroots organising, Kate’s policy development and campaign strategy – uniquely qualify them to strengthen trade union connections and advance members’ interests.
