Worcester gets Living Wage for city council employees thanks to the Greens

27 November 2013

Worcester has adopted the Living Wage for city council employees.

This has come about thanks to Green Cllr Neil Laurenson, who made instituting the living wage one of three Green conditions of supporting the change of administration in May.

Laurenson (St Stephens) said:

“I am really pleased that Worcester City Council has adopted the Living Wage. It will clearly benefit low-paid employees and the local economy, and hopefully the council's decision will encourage other local employers to adopt the Living Wage.”

The living wage, for outside London, is now £7.65 per hour.

Neil Laurenson is the first Green ever elected onto Worcester City Council. He is one of 18 Green councilors, on 9 councils, across the West Midlands region.
