Green Party release ‘Europe for the Common Good’ election film

#NickvNigel: Europe Doesn’t Have to be a Shouting Match

The debate over Europe has been reduced to a shouting match between narrow-minded politicians who are well-versed in doing politics the old way but detached from the people. Only the Green Party is delivering the right kind of change in Europe.

The closed debate on BBC 2 tonight is a sideshow from the real issue; recalibrating European membership so that it works for the common good.

The Green Party of England and Wales, part of the fourth-largest group in the European Parliament, supports Britain’s continued membership of the European Union, whilst campaigning to tackle its many flaws.

Jean Lambert, London's Green MEP, said:

“Nick Clegg and Nigel Farage’s simplistic picture represents the views of a tiny fraction of the British people, saying respectively either that pulling out of Europe would solve all of our problems, or else that European Union membership is a panacea that will solve all of our economic woes.

“Voters understand that our relationship with the European Union is not so simple and only the Green Party appreciates that. The truth is, of course, in between the two. EU membership is great for the UK, economically, environmentally and culturally: but the EU has to change priorities and put people and planet before big business-as-usual"
