Asma Alam here, a proud Mancunian with over 20 years’ experience in marketing and communications across fashion, charities, digital design, and events. Running to be the next Campaigns Coordinator because campaigns shouldn’t just talk, they need to make noise, make moves, and make real change.

The Iraq War defined my generation and showed how little the powerful care. Tory austerity gutted our communities. Labour stabbed us in the back. Fascism is rising, and the far-right media is out of control. The climate crisis is raging. We need fearless Green campaigns that move people because we’re out of time for half measures.

Since joining the Green Party in 2023, I’ve:

  • Co-founded Muslim Greens and Greens for Palestine
  • Served as North West Diversity Officer
  • Been elected to the Campaigns Committee to fight for braver, more relevant campaigns

The Campaigns Committee turns our ideas into action, connecting national goals with grassroots work.

As your Campaigns Coordinator, I will:

  • Overhaul Campaign Committee strategy by bringing in fresh visionaries and changemakers passionate about delivering key messages
  • Supercharge digital platforms by setting up dedicated campaign social media accounts and keeping our website updated with powerful, inspiring content
  • Link activism and strategy by making sure what happens at the grassroots feeds into national plans, and by working across the party with press, policy teams, and special interest groups to ensure our campaigns have the support they need to succeed

The Campaigns Committee shouldn’t be a mystery that few understand or engage with. It should be a driving force at the heart of the Green Party, powering change, driving electoral success, and helping us build the future we believe in.

Tax the super rich | End the genocide | Free Palestine | Cancel student debt | Abolish tuition fees | Net zero now | Criminalise ecocide | Ban fossil fuel ads | Clean air for all | Stop sewage pollution | Protect nature and biodiversity | Repeal anti-protest laws | Trans rights are human rights | Justice for refugees |  Stand up to fascism | Empower local democracy | Peace, not nukes | Question NATO | Long Covid is real

Haydn Osborne-Brookes

Labour is collapsing. After repeatedly failing the working class, they’re rapidly losing support. But the Greens haven’t been the main beneficiary from this, Reform has. Why? Reform sends a clear and simple message to voters, and although it’s packed with misinformation and lies, it is easily digestible. Reform has painted a clear and simple picture of what they will do if they’re elected. The Greens must do the same, but we must tell a story of hope and justice instead to overcome Reform’s narrative of hate. That’s why I’m standing to be Campaigns Co-ordinator. I can help the party create this vision throughout our campaigns.

Our vision must be focused on economic justice, and how we can tangibly improve the economic conditions of voters as a positive effect of our policies to tax the ultra rich and give to those who need it the most. Polls have shown that people care most about the economy and their finances, and therefore it’s clear where our attention should be.

But don’t just listen to me! These campaigns tactics have been successful. Zohran Mamdani’s campaign during the recent New York Democratic Mayoral Primary focused on simple messages of economic justice, such as “Fast, free buses” and “Freeze the rent”. Zohran won on this campaign platform, and we can win on one adjusted for the political climate of England and Wales. If you elect me as Campaigns Co-ordinator I will ensure our campaigns are focused on economic justice.

These clear economic policies weren’t the only reason Zohran won in New York though. During the primary, the age group with the highest turnout was 18-24 year olds. YouGov polling has shown the Greens are at 26% amongst 18-24 year olds, just behind Labour! We must appeal more to this younger base in our campaigns. I am a young candidate, and whilst I am still experienced despite this (I am Head of Campaigns for the Young European Movement, and I will soon be launching a Votes at 16 campaign with Carla Denyer and Natalie Bennett), I also know what interests young people and how we can engage them. A massive factor in this will be focusing on how economic justice benefits young people, but we also need to make sure our campaigns are bold and dynamic. If you elect me as your Campaigns Co-ordinator, I will increase our polling amongst younger voters using my first hand understanding of what campaigns appeal to them.

But national campaigns isn’t the only responsibility of the Campaigns Co-ordinator, local campaigns guidance is aswell. We need improved digital infrastructure to make our campaigns guidance more accessible and engaging for local parties, and I will work with the rest of GPEx and the Green Party Staff to ensure local campaigns guidance can be accessed in multiple forms in an engaging, centralised online space.

So rank me, Haydn Osborne-Brookes, first on your ballot for Campaigns Co-ordinator, and vote Haydn for Campaigns!
